World’s Most Secure Messaging App ‘Signal’ Prepares To Rival WhatsApp

Marking its presence on the Google Play Store with more than 10 million downloads, Signal is on its way to compete with WhatsApp. CEO Moxie Marlinspike said that Signal Messenger will go through several changes. He created the app to make encrypted communication easy so that anyone can use it.

As reported by Ars Technica, Signal is reaching the audience at a good pace. The core users of the app were cybersecurity nerds, privacy experts, and activists. The developers were focused on making the app easy to use for common users.

In 2018, WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton invested an amount of $50 million in the end-to-end encryption project of Signal. Later, Acton became a part of the Signal Foundation as executive chairman.

Latest Features In Signal Messenger:
Three latest updates in Signal include support for iPad, image disappearing feature after viewing, and customizable stickers in the previous two months. As per the latest announcement Signal messenger will soon get a unique system for group messaging.

The developers will now focus on making Signal user-friendly similar to Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. In 2016, the app had a user base of 2 million which has now grown 5 times than the former figure.

Adding a feature in Signal is complicated as the app never compromises with its security. For example, adding stickers to the Signal messaging app is not the same as adding the feature to any other messaging app. Keeping the privacy of users in mind, it uses “stickers packs” that are encrypted with pack keys.

The new group feature of Signal Messenger will permit the admin to add or remove any member and the server will get no information about the group members.

People will look for an app that they can trust in terms of security as compared to Facebook or WhatsApp’s current security issues.

Acton said that Signal will try to hit a user base of a billion users by simplifying the user interface and making it more interactive for the general audience.
