Incredible 1,500-year-old Christian mosaic uncovered in Israel

Archaeologists in Israel have uncovered a stunning 1,500-year-old Christian mosaic that was once the floor of a church or monastery. Experts found the mosaic during an excavation in the ancient Mediterranean coastal city of Ashdod-Yam, now part of the modern city of Ashdod. The discovery, which was made in August, was announced Thursday by the Israel Antiquities Authority. An inscription in Greek dedicated to the structure’s builders offered archaeologists a vital clue. The inscription mentions a date on the ancient Georgian calendar, enabling experts to date the building. "[By the grace of God (or Christ)], this work was done from the foundation under Procopius, our most saintly and most holy bishop, in the month Dios of the 3rd indiction, year 292" it reads. The year 292 corresponds to 539 A.D. “This is the earliest appearance of the use of the Georgian calendar in the Land of Israel, many years before it was used in Georgia itself,” explained Dr. Leah Di Segni of ...

Google celebrate an Icon

The global acclaim of Things Fall Apart, a story about Okonkwo, an Igbo leader who struggles with the arrival of Christian missionaries in his village, was a universal tale about the impact of colonial rule in Africa. It arguably helped set the tone for African literature and writers taking charge of their own narrative using distinct African characters. In that respect, Achebe can be regarded as a pioneer in the fight to counter lazy racist stereotypes that have been used to portray Africa in literature and journalism. Joseph Conrad, author of Heart of Darkness, a controversial account of a journey on Congo River first published in 1899, has borne the brunt of Achebe’s intolerance of demeaning African tropes. Achebe has called Conrad a “bloody racist” described his book as  “totally deplorable.” The Nigerian government was often also a target of Achebe’s criticism. Twice,  in 2004 and in 2011 , he rejected the government’s offer to name him Commander of the Federal Republ...

US Refuses To Release Abacha Loot Because It's In Dollars

The United States (US) Government has laid claim to hundreds of millions of dollars stashed abroad by the government of the late military ruler, Sani Abacha. The Americans allegedly told a court in an unnamed foreign country that it had an interest in the loot because it was saved in its currency, the US dollar. Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN) and rights activist Mr. Femi Falana (SAN) made the claims yesterday in Lagos. Malami, guest speaker Falana, Chief Chairman, Special Investigative Panel on Assets Recovery Okoi Obono-Obla, among others, were participants in a seminar organized by the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP). The seminar with the theme: Promoting Transparency and Accountability in the Recovery of Stolen Assets in Nigeria: Proposals for Reform, was organized in collaboration with Ford Foundation, USA. BEWARE. IT IS SNAKE SEASON!

DUE TO THE HEATWAVE AND HIGH TEMPERATURES CURRENTLY IN NIGERIA, SNAKES, ESPECIALLY COBRAS, SEEK REFUGE IN COOLER PLACES LIKE INSIDE HOMES. SAFETY TIPS 1. Avoid leaving windows open for too long. Cobras and Mambas can reach heights that are very high. 2. Avoid leaving your front doors open for fresh air in the evenings. These reptiles are absolutely STEALTHY (too quiet). You won't hear or see them go inside your house. 3 Before sitting under the tree that has that cooling shade, check the branches that there are no snakes lurking in the branches. 4. Check your bed and surrounding before you go to bed, cobras are notorious for hiding under the sheets. 5. Avoid the age old trend of liking to chill outside of the house, with mattresses and wrappers in the evening. Most reptiles are nocturnal (hunt at night and more effective) 6. Not only snakes might bite you, but also the age old human enemy; the centipede (Mosithaphala), which is fast and very venomous. 7. Clear b...

RETROSPECTIVE GLANCE AT EDUCATION - ASUP NATIONWIDE STRIKE by G.Song

Readers, permit me to open my manuscript with these aphorisms, for students " Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself", and to ASUP body "To a right-winger, unions are awful. Why do right-wingers hate unions? Because collective bargaining is the power that a worker has against the Government . Right-wingers hate that." _(Connotatively,only  unionist will understand this laconic concept of thought)_ Indeed, strike is a negotiation tool - Collective bargaining is the negotiating process between unions and Government to settle a variety of issues, including wages, hours, plant and safety rules, and grievance procedures meanwhile Negotiations can become heated If they reach an impasse, then the conflict can be referred to mediation, but that is not binding, If the union does not get satisfaction, it can resort to a strike but alas to student's disadvantage strike at the education sector is an coadjutor and abettor to many inimical and cat...
